A Local Utilities Team helping modernise homes across the North East
We’re Alex and Luke — utilities contractors based in the North East.
On site, we kept finding homes still connected to old lead supply pipes. The surprise wasn’t that lead existed, it was how many families didn’t realise their drinking water was still running through it.
A Family Legacy in Water Utilities
Alex Kurek grew up in the water utilities industry. His father began working in the sector in the early 1990s, and from a young age Alex learned the realities of underground infrastructure and supplying homes safely.
Alex worked alongside his father before setting out on his own in the construction industry. He gained experience across major sites in London, building practical knowledge across groundworks, utilities and infrastructure projects
Alex returned to continue the family business following his father’s retirement — with a clear ambition to grow it into a trusted household name for domestic water services. A company homeowners turn to for honest advice, technical clarity and high standards when it comes to their water supply.
Today, that same ethos drives the company. All operatives are fully compliant with UK water regulations, and every installation uses WRAS-approved materials to ensure the highest standards for homeowners.
Turning Industry Insight into Public Awareness
In our industry, we understand the regulations and the history of lead pipework. But because lead supply pipes are buried underground, the issue often goes unnoticed.
As fathers to young daughters, that awareness carried extra weight. We realised that families like ours might choose to take action - if they simply had clearer information about what runs into their home.
LeadFreeWater was created to close that knowledge gap. Our aim isn’t to alarm. It’s to provide clear, balanced information and a simple, practical pathway for homeowners who want certainty about their water supply.
